APACE is hosting a series of virtual events in the month of May in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. This year's theme is Amplify AAPI Voices.
Kickoff Event: Virtual Lunch and Listen Thursday, May 6 at noon Assistant Chief Administrative Officer of the County of San Diego and APACE Executive Sponsor Michael Vu kicks off AAPI Heritage Month by sharing the stories that shaped what it means for him to be an Asian American. Virtual Panel Discussion Thursday, May 20 at 5 PM Leaders from the AAPI community come together as a panel to amplify AAPI voices and discuss a range of topics such as culture, heritage, customs, and traditions; what it means to be AAPI; and current issues surrounding the AAPI community. AAPI Heritage Month Calendar To help the community appreciate and learn more about the diverse AAPI cultures and their rich history, APACE prepared a calendar with daily prompts for activities celebrating AAPI culture. Share Your Story APACE is collecting stories of community members to put a spotlight on all the amazing AAPI individuals that make the County of San Diego shine. |

Michael Vu, County of San Diego Assistant Chief Administrative Officer
Michael Vu was appointed the County’s Assistant CAO in January 2021. With over 24 years of local county government experience, Mr. Vu assists the CAO in implementing policies set by the Board of Supervisors and managing the operations of the second-largest county government in the state. Before his appointment, Mr. Vu served as the County’s Registrar of Voters for over eight years and Assistant Registrar for six years. He was responsible for the administration of all primary, general, special and district elections for the County and the surrounding municipalities. The role required extensive engagement with a diverse cross-section of the community, and he earned national recognition for his work. Prior to coming to the County of San Diego, Mr. Vu worked for three and a half years as director of the Board of Elections in Ohio. Before that, he spent seven years working for the Salt Lake County Elections Division. Mr. Vu has worked tirelessly to improve County government services and has been involved on both a local and national level to discuss the status of election administration. He has been a champion of equity, diversity and inclusion both in the community and within the County workforce. |
